GONDOMAR
41° 9′ N;  8° 32′ W

Gondomar is a Portuguese city located in the sub-region of the Metropolitan Area of Porto, belonging to the North region and the district of Porto. It has an urban area of 47.40 km2, 69,172 inhabitants in 2021 and a population density of 1,797 inhabitants per km2.

It is the seat of the municipality of Gondomar, with a total area of 131.86 km2, 164,255 inhabitants in 2021 and a population density of 1,246 inhabitants per km2, subdivided into 7 parishes. The municipality is limited to the west by the municipality of Porto, to the southwest by Vila Nova de Gaia, to the northeast by Valongo and Paredes, to the northwest by Maia, to the southeast by Penafiel and Castelo de Paiva and to the south by Arouca and Santa Maria da Feira.

The ex-libris of the city, Monte Crasto, constitutes a natural fortress on high ground, with 194 meters of altitude, thus becoming one of the main viewpoints of the municipality, from where you can reach breathtaking views over the Douro river and over the municipalities of Gondomar, Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia.

The Douro influences the municipality's gastronomy where shad and lamprey are its most emblematic products.

In addition to these segments, there is a very rich cultural heritage and traditions where the ancestral arts of filigree and carving are preserved. Jewelery is the county's main activity. Given the tradition of the people of Gondomar, this is the art that best characterizes Gondomar, earning it the title of "Capital of Goldsmithing".

Geography
The municipality of Gondomar is crossed or bathed by the Rio Douro, Rio Tinto, Rio Torto, Rio Sousa and Rio Ferreira. The highlight goes to the Douro River which along its banks has an extension of approximately 37 km. This important resource gives it strong tourist potential in terms of Nautical and Nature Tourism. In this context, the river beaches stand out which, due to their unique landscape setting, stand out as poles of great attractiveness in the bathing season, thus including Praia da Lomba, Praia de Zebreiros, Praia de Melres and Praia de Marecos. In addition to the beaches, Gondomar also has beautiful landscapes in the context of mountains.

The municipalities of Gondomar, Valongo and Paredes formed the association of the Parque das Serras do Porto, where the requalification of a vast area of about 6 thousand hectares is expected, in the Serras de Santa Justa, Pias, Castiçal, Flores, Santa Iria and Banjas , thus forming the largest "green lung" in the Porto Metropolitan Area.
